NEW--7/20/11--Going back to the very beginning: Where'd you go to elementary school? What about recess and the games we played? Did you walk to school? Did you take your lunch? Did you go to recreation after school? How did you fill your summers?

Arroyo Elementary
John Marshal Jr. High
I walked to school from Ganesha Hills
Mostly took my lunch & bought once a week.
My mom worked, so being the oldest, was in charge of my brothers.
We'd go to the beach & the pool & a summer trip with family.

NEW--7/20/11--We never outgrow our youth, Part 1. Remember starting Junior High School? We got lockers for books and PE, going to a six period day, sock hops in gym, co-ed PE on Fridays when the guys and girls had to dance together? Do you remember all the new people you had to interact with? How about taken a shower in PE? What about J-Teen dances? What are your memories of that time?

I liked the co-ed dances on Friday's. I liked meeting new people. I hated the PE routine and showers...who liked that???

NEW--7/20/11--We never outgrow our youth, Part 2. When we got to high school, we had to start over at the bottom of the pile again as sophomores. Remember those "big" kids driving cars to school? Having classes with those giant juniors and seniors? How about all those sports? What about the theater arts and music departments and their productions? What do YOU remember?

I loved the music classes and dances. I loved the football games and 1/2 time activities. I was in the Choir and Madrigals & have good memories of that time. I loved Mr. Cummings.

What’s your favorite memory of Ganesha HS?

Good friends, football games & going to Mel's & Hull House afterwards. I sometimes see people from High School at the mall or store, as I've lived in the area since elementary school.

Least favorite memory?

How sad I was when the announcement of Pres.
Kennedy was killed & seeing everyone crying & upset.

School Story:

I remember Kristi Powell & Susie Hoblit & I TP'd someones house & got caught, had to go back & clean it all up.....what a mess. I was so embarressed.

Favorite teacher?

Mr. Cummings in Choir & Madrigals

NEW--7/20/11--Just what was it about your favorite teacher that you liked? Was it the "No-Homework" policy that gives you fond memories? Funny? Made you think? Let you out of class early? Easy grader?

He was a kind man, funny, loved the kids & his job.

NEW--7/20/11--Remember learning to drive and earning your passport to freedom? Did you take Driver's Ed in school? Did you pass the driving test the first time you took it?

I passed & am still a good driver!

NEW--7/20/11--Remember your first accident and your first ticket? Tell us what how they happened.

Good driver, no coment.

NEW--7/20/11--Remember your first wheels? What were they and how did you get them? (If you have a picture, please post one in the Photo Gallery/My First Car)

I had a Renault (Ugly), but it was mine & it ran.
Then I paid for a Tourquise Nash Rambler Convertable with my 1st job.

NEW--7/20/11--Most of us were in class when they announced that President Kennedy had been shot. What do you remember specifically? What did you do after we were sent home that day?

I was in shock & was crying. I watched TV news all afternoon.

NEW--7/20/11--What ARE your current thoughts about retirement?

I've been retired now for 9 yrs. Mostly staying home & watching my grandkids as neede, and enjoying it. We've traveled a little, but would love to do more before we get too old to enjoy it.

NEW--7/20/11--Are you retired, getting ready to retire, having a working retirement, or will you ever retire? Thinking about a cold brew and rocking chair on the porch? Hitting the links each day, going fishing whenever you feel like it? Maybe a new hobby like wood carving or restoring antiques? Where are you planning on going from here?

More tavel and enjoying our beautiful country we've always wanted to see.

What do you do now?

I've retired from being a nurse for a GYN in Upland, about 9 yrs. now. I'm enjoying being a "Nana" to my 4 grandkids. We also enjoy camping around Calif. and taking day-trip motorcycle rides.

NEW--7/20/11--Where would you like to live?

We've lived in Upland for 38 yrs. and are very happy here.

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

Kristi (Powell) Wiggenhorn. We've been friends since we were 10. We're Godparents for eachother's kids. Susie Hoblit Sneed, when she's in Ca. & John Rieger too, Susie, Kris & John were in our wedding. Now that we've been on the Reunion Committee it's been fun to connect with about 15 of our classmates.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

As social & outgoing as I was in High School, I've become quite content to keep a low profile, let Mike be the outgoing one now. It's like we've switched roles. He was always the shy one in school.

Any vices?

Soap operas & a glass of wine with dinner.

Any gray hair yet?

No

Anything else we should know?

I met my husband (Mike Cloud) in the 10th grade English class. We didn't date until the summer after graduation. We were engaged in College & married in 1968. Now married 42 yrs. I love him even more as the yrs. go by.

Any words of wisdom?

Be happy & enjoy the small things in life & be grateful for what you have, not always wishing for more.
